The Edgar Felix Bikeway is a 5.4 mile rail trail between Manasquan and Allaire State Park. The trail was constructed on a former roadbed of the Farmingdale and Squan Village Railroad and the Freehold and Jamesburg Agricultural Railroad.

There are multiple parking areas designated for the bike path on either end of the path and in between.  Perfect for family rides of any ages., it is very flat, paved, but a little bumpy in some areas.  There is a park with a playground towards the Manasquan end and a great general store on the Allenwood end for a food and drink pit stop.

The Manasquan Reservoir bike path is a wide , well maintained, crushed gravel, multi-use perimeter mountain bike trail around the reservoir featuring shaded woodlands, wetlands,  and panoramic views of the water.

The trail is approximately five miles around and is, for the most part, flat with a few minimal hill climbs.  Perfect for family rides with multiple stops for rest or picnic,  the trail is also an excellent fitness loop for any hybrid style bike.

It is a multi use trail that has many hikers, runners, and cyclists.  It can get busy on weekends, but never seems overcrowded.

Allaire State Park has lots to offer off-road cyclists of any skill level.  There are good climbs, forest roads, and river trails. You share the area with horseback riders and hikers, but  mostly mountain bikers. There are miles of single track that vary from flat and twisty, to rooty and sandy, and although generally flat, good climbing can be found.

This is a great place for mountain biking, but can also serve as a great family ride on the hospital road side trails.  Although it could be ridden on a hybrid, we recommend an off road specific bike as the terrain is maintained but not groomed.

Road Rides

Riding down the bike lane on Route 35 to Island Beach State Park is always  a scenic ride.  The bike lane is top notch, and Island Beach State Park offers views of nature that feel similar to something in the everglades.  It stretches along the coast, so it is fairly flat and straight. A rider can make their ride whatever distance they choose, making this a go-to loop for most visitors to the area.

In addition to Island Beach State Park, we have provided three different GPS files for any visitors that are looking for a road ride with a little more varying terrain.*  The files can be added to your gps head unit and will provide turn by turn directions.  There are short, medium, and longer distance routes.

*These are local routes for riders with experience doing longer distance road cycling.  Please do not attempt to do a ride out of your experience or fitness level.  These are simply routes that we feel are enjoyable and scenic, and are not closed courses or supported rides.  Please be cautious and obey all road and traffic laws.
